Psychotherapy FAQ Evaluation FAQ Media FAQ

Q. What is cognitive-behavior therapy?
A. As the name implies, cognitive-behavior therapy (CBT) focuses on changing maladaptive behaviors and thought patterns.  Scientific research suggests that CBT is typically the most effective line of treatment for patients.  Patients often prefer CBT given that it tends to be short-term and problem-focused.

Q. I need therapy, but I do not live in your office's vicinity.  How do I go about
finding a qualified therapist in my area?

A. Dr. Macari understands that the process of finding a therapist can be daunting.  However, it is important that you find someone who is qualified to handle your unique needs.  Dr. Macari recommends that you find a licensed psychologist who holds a Ph.D. in clinical psychology and who is trained in cognitive-behavior therapy.  The Association for Behavior and Cognitive Therapies offers a national directory of CBT psychologists (http://www.abct.org/members/Directory/Find_A_Therapist.cfm). Don't be afraid to "shop around" until you find the right person for the job!

Please contact Dr. Macari for more information or to schedule an appointment.
